Stewed Collard Greens Recipe

      • 3 Tablespoons Lard
      • 6 Cloves Garlic (Minced)
      • 1 Large Onion (Diced)
      • 6 Cups Water
      • 2 Teaspoons Seasoned Salt
      • 2 Teaspoons Crushed Red Pepper Flakes
      • 1 1/2 Pounds Smoked Ham Hocks
      • 1 Large Bunch Of Collard Greens (Coarsely Chopped)
      • 1 1/2 Cups Dry White Wine
      • 1/4 Teaspoon Granulated Sugar


  1. In a 6-quart stockpot, Heat 1 tablespoon lard over medium heat. Saute minced garlic and onion for 5 minutes, or until the onions are softened. Stir in the water, seasoned salt, red pepper flakes, and ham hocks and bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer for one hour.
  2. Add remaining lard, chopped collard greens, wine and sugar. Bring to a boil again, and reduduce to simmer for another hour.
  3. Remove the ham hocks from the stockpot, and allow to cool for a few minutes. Debone the ham hocks, and shred the meat. Return to the collard greens and stir to combine.
